Appeal for information after attempted armed robbery at city newsagent

Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at a newsagent in Allenton.

A man walked into Smart News, at the junction of Chellaston Road and Cheshire Street, with what appeared to be a firearm.

The offender demanded money but left empty-handed in the attempted robbery, which happened at about 7.35pm on Saturday, February 7.

He was white, aged in his early 20s, about 5ft 3ins, of medium build, and was wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark trousers.

Officers investigating the attempted robbery want to hear from witnesses or anyone who might recognise the description of the offender.
