Police thank the public after man is charged following police pursuit in Amber Valley.

On Monday, February 23 at 1.55pm a man got into the passenger side of a red Mercedes in a car park on Limes Avenue, Alfreton. He asked the female driver to drive the car; she refused and got out of the car.

The man drove off in the Mercedes and the woman rang the police.

Officers traced the car that was parked off of Moseley Street in Ripley, a pursuit of the vehicle then began. The car was in collision with 10 vehicles including a police vehicle before it finally stopped on Derby Road, Swanwick.

John Ward (33) of Mellishaw Lane, Morecambe was arrested later that day and was charged with robbery, disqualified driving, dangerous driving and having no insurance and appeared at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 25 and was remanded in custody.

Sgt Mark Seston from Chesterfield Volume Crime Team said: “We would like to thank all the members of the public who helped officers on the day and provided information.

“We are still appealing for anyone with further information to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference number 7885/15.”
