Police appeal for witnesses after a man was assaulted when he tried to stop men damaging his van.

On Thursday, January 1 at 1am a man heard a noise outside his home on Westgreen Avenue, Allenton.

He looked out the window and saw a youth stamping on his wing mirror. When he went outside and challenged the youth he was met with a group of people, male and female. An altercation took place and the youths then repeatedly punched him.

There were two white youths described as white, aged 17-18 years-old. One of them was riding a BMX style bike and both were wearing hooded tops with the hoods worn up.

Two further youths were described as black, of a similar age; one was wearing a black puffa style coat and was riding a BMX style bike. The youth on the bike was wearing a hooded top with the hood worn up and the other was wearing a black coloured hooded top with a white logo on the front and a black hat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Phil Ward at Cotton Lane police station using the non-emergency 101 number.
