Police appeal for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Somercotes.

On Thursday, January 1 at 1.54am a man was walking along High Street, near to the corner of Sleetmoor Lane, with friends when they passed a group of 6 men.

An altercation took place and the man was punched in the face by one of the men. He fell to the floor and was then kicked and punched by the group.

The man received hospital treatment and suffered a broken eye socket amongst other injuries.

One of the men was described as white, aged 17-21 years-old, 5ft 8ins tall with short dark blonde hair and was of a medium build. He was wearing a grey coloured hooded top, a black body warmer which was zipped up and light grey jogging bottoms.

A second man was described as white, aged 17-21 years-old, 5ft 7ins tall with brown/black hair and was clean shaven. He was wearing a grey coloured hooded top, jogging bottoms and boots.
