Police in Mickleover are reminding drivers to lock their vehicles and remove valuables from display following a rise in thefts in the area.

The crimes have taken place in Catterick Drive, Vicarage Road, Alverton Close, Etwall Road, Ladybank Road, Station Road, Western Road, Devonshire Drive, Chestnut Avenue and East Avenue.

Sunglasses and a satnav were taken from a car in Alverton Close on Monday night (January 26) while tools were stolen from a van in East Avenue on Tuesday night (January 27).

PC Steve Lawrence said: “We want to remind drivers that they should always make sure their vehicle is locked and the windows are up.

“Don’t leave anything on display, such as phones, bags and wallets. Put your car in the garage, if you have access to one, or park in a well-lit area.”Car thief

PCSO Tracy Bell said: “We are asking residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us and we are increasing patrols in the area.

“These crimes are typically happening at night so please call 101 if you see anyone trying car doors, or loitering around parked cars.”
