Slipper burglar jailed for three years after fingerprint match

Posted on 19th November 2015

A burglar who stole a slipper from a house in Derby was caught after forensic officers found his fingerprint in the address.

Jason Dawson broke into the house, in St Andrews View, and searched several rooms before making off with a handful of items.

Among the belongings reported missing by the victim was a sat nav and one slipper.

The burglary took place during the day on April 27 this year, after which a fingerprint was found on a door by Derbyshire police’s crime scene investigators.

Dawson was identified through the fingerprint and was charged with burglary, which he admitted at Derby Crown Court.

The 33-year-old, of St Christopher Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, was jailed for three years for the burglary. The court was told it was his third similar offence.

He was also given a 28-day concurrent prison sentence for failing to surrender to custody at the appointed time.
