Distraction burglars steal rings from elderly victim

Posted on 28th October 2015

Three burglars tricked their way into the home of an elderly woman before stealing rings from her bedroom.

Two men and a woman called at a house in Bethulie Road, Normanton, at about 2pm on Sunday, October 25.

The woman asked if the 85-year-old victim would like some gardening doing, while the two men said they needed to check inside.

The victim later realised that an emerald eternity ring and a diamond ring had been stolen from a bedroom.

One of the men was white, in his late 50s, was wearing a cap with very short hair on the sides of his head. The second man was in his late 20s. The woman was mid-30s and was wearing a onesie.

Police want people to be aware of the distraction burglary tactic.

Witnesses or anyone with information on the offence should call Derbyshire police on 101, quoting crime reference 46218/15.

You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
