'Water company workers' trick their way into home to steal cash

Posted on 21st April 2017

Cash and jewellery were stolen from a bungalow in Sawley by two men who claimed they were from the water board.

The men visited a property in Cromford Close during the day on April 15 and asked to be let in to check the water supply.

Later on, it was discovered that cash and jewellery had been stolen during the visit.

In a separate incident in Spondon a few days later, cash was taken in a distraction burglary in which two men said they were cleaning windows.

The offenders visited a house in Craddock Avenue and offered to clean the windows at a reduced rate.

They came back to take payment the following day – on the evening of April 17 – but stole a large amount of cash during that visit.

We don’t have descriptions of the offenders in either distraction burglary but want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in either area.

If you can help, call DC Bali Chahal on 101, quoting reference 17000161506 for the Sawley offence or 17000160900 for the Spondon one.
