Statement about police presence in Heanor today

At 12.25am today (Saturday, August 26) we received reports of a man believed to be in possession of a gun in Heanor.

Armed officers were sent to the area where they found the man, who was subsequently shot during a confrontation with police.

The man, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call us on 101 quoting incident 16 of August 26.
