Would-be car thieves break into homes on hunt for keys

Posted on 8th February 2017

We’re appealing for witnesses after three homes in Swadlincote were targeted by burglars who we think were looking for car keys.

A house in Glasgow Close was burgled between 10.30pm and 7am on January 26.

Nothing was stolen but officers believe that the offenders were looking for the keys to a Ford Focus RS, which was parked outside.

Similar break-ins happened a few days before. One house, in Victoria Drive, Woodville, was broken into overnight between January 22 and 23, while another house in Essex Drive, Church Gresley, was targeted the following night.

A red Audi RS6 was taken from the driveway after the burglars found the keys inside the address.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity around any of those locations, or who can help our investigation in any way, should call DC Luanne Heeley on 101, quoting reference 17000037671.
