We have used powers under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act to evict a group of travellers from Chaddesden Park this afternoon.
We can take this action when encampments are significantly impacting upon the local community, where damage or anti-social behaviour is taking place or where there are a large number of vehicles on the site.
Superintendent Tracy Harrison said: “In this case, we have monitored the site in recent days and we have become concerned about damage being done to the land, including the depositing of glass and human waste.
“This is not acceptable and so we have removed the group from the park.”
