On Wednesday, July 12 we received a report that a 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in Eckington.

At 8.10am the girl was walking along Hornthorpe Road which leads to West Street,  when she was allegedly approached by a man. The man asked her to go with him and threatened her and the girl ran off.

The man was described as in his 50s-60s, with white hair which was in a quiff at the front. He had a large belly and walked with a limp. He was wearing a light coloured short sleve shirt and dark coloured chino style trousers.

The man also had a small, scruffy looking, wiry dog with his which was on a lead.

Officers investigating would like to speak to a group of schoolboys that were in the area at the time that may have witnessed the incident.
