Witness appeal after man is allegedly assaulted in city centre

Detectives are asking for witnesses to an assault in which a man was allegedly kicked while he was on the ground by men who then ran off.

The incident happened in Becket Well Lane at about 3am on Saturday, April 27.

The victim – a 23-year-old man – had been involved in an altercation and, while he was on the floor, was reportedly kicked to the head by two men.

A man was arrested a short time later but the second was not traced.

Officers want to speak to anyone who saw the incident take place and might be able to help trace the second man.

A 23-year-old man was Alvaston was charged with assault in connection with the incident and will appear at court at a later date.
