Dashboard camera footage sought following fatal collision

We’re appealing for drivers with dashboard camera footage to come forward as part of an investigation into a fatal collision near Scropton.

At around 8pm on Thursday, June 15, a cyclist was involved in a collision with a blue Mercedes flatbed on the A50, near to the A511 Scropton turn.

The cyclist, who has now been identified as John Stewart (72), of Hilton, was taking part in a time trial that evening when the collision took place.

Collision investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have any dash cam footage of it or the vehicle prior to the collision, to come forward.

The Mercedes was driving along the A50 between Stoke and Uttoxeter. A 27-year-old Swadlincote man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
