Man dies following an assault in Staveley

A man has died following an assault in Staveley.

As part of the investigation, we have now released this CCTV image of a man, woman and child, who could have witnessed this incident.

We would urge them to come forward and speak to officers. They were seen in High Street at around the time of the assault.

On Wednesday, June 21, between 6.15pm and 6.30pm, a man was allegedly assaulted in the Beechers Brook pub on High Street.

An ambulance was called and the injured man was taken to Sheffield Northern General Hospital.

The man, Peter Matts (69), of Staveley, has now died in hospital. We have launched a murder inquiry.

Jason Knowland (45), of High Street, Staveley, has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. He is next due to appear at Derby Crown Court on Monday, July 24.
