We are welcoming 13 new special constables to the force this evening.

The volunteers will attend a ceremony at police headquarters in Ripley.

They range in age from 18 to 41 and will serve across the county in towns including Matlock, Ripley, Ilkeston and Chesterfield. Five will serve at stations in Derby.

Friends and family will watch the new recruits read the oath of allegiance and receive their course certificates and warrant cards from magistrate Paul Beard.

Assistant Chief Constable Bill McWilliam, who is attending the event, said: “I’m pleased to welcome these new special constables to the force.

“They are giving their time freely to help us police the county and I look forward to seeing the difference they make to the lives of local people."
