Appeal after runner is sexually assaulted on a canal path

Posted on 16th March 2017

We’re investigating a sexual assault on a woman who was running along a canal path.

At around 1.45pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 15), a 39-year-old woman was running along the canal path towards Ambergate from Whatstandwell when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.

He then ran off toward Whatstandwell. He is white, about 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build. He had fair hair and wore thick grey jogging bottoms, a grey hooded top and a grey cap.

We sent officers to the scene to search for the man but did not find him. We’re satisfied the incident is not linked to the sexual assaults in Spondon and Darley Abbey we are investigating.

Anyone with information should call us on 101, quoting reference 17000110368.
