Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of committing a series of serious sex attacks on women in Spondon and Darley Abbey.
The 23-year-old Chaddesden man was arrested as a direct result of information which came from the public.
He remains in custody and is being questioned.
On Monday, March 13, we launched a new, large-scale appeal for information, establishing a dedicated phone line for information and urging people to email our appeals inbox. We also produced appeal leaflets to be distributed across parts of Derby where the crimes had occurred.
Detective Inspector Emlyn Richards, the senior investigating officer leading the inquiry, said: “I want to thank the public for their overwhelming support this week. The response to our appeal has been excellent.
“This week, residents have provided us with more than 180 separate pieces of information, including the information which had led to this arrest.
“I would urge anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault to come forward and speak to us. Rest assured that you will be believed and supported by the force.
“I also ask that anyone with information about these crimes, who has yet to contact us, makes that call or sends that email.
“Officers are still out in the community, reassuring residents, and you can also pass any information you have to them.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa said: “I would like to thank all those who came forward with information to help. Information from the public has been, as it is so often, invaluable. I would also like to pay tribute to the Constabulary’s actions and of course the officers and staff who have worked tirelessly on this case.”
