Pedestrian remains in a serious condition following a collision in Swarkestone

A man remains in hospital following a serious collision on the A514.

We were called to the collision, which happened between the junction of the A50 and Swarkstone village, at 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 29).

A van and a car collided and the car went into the nearby canal. A pedestrian was struck during the collision and he also went into the canal.

Passers-by helped the elderly woman driving the car to safety and pulled the pedestrian from the water.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where he remains in a critical condition. The woman was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital with minor injuries and was later discharged.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call the collision investigation unit on 101, quoting reference 675 of March 29.
