Jack at Palace
Our recently retired Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Jack Atwal, was at Buckingham Palace last week, receiving a medal from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
Jack was named in the New Year’s Honours list earlier this year as having been awarded the Queens’ Police Medal (QPM) for his distinguished service and on Friday, May 19 he attended the palace with his wife and daughter to receive the award.
Mr Atwal served with Derbyshire police for 30 years and for the last five and a half years was head of policing in Derby, South Derbyshire and Erewash.
After receiving his award he said: “I was immensely proud to receive the award from Prince Charles. The event was excellent and hearing the citations of ordinary, hardworking individuals serving their community was humbling.
“The day was also tinged with sadness as it was the last day I will wear my police uniform, something I was always very proud to do.”
