In an emergency always call 999

Posted on 3rd October 2017

People in Derby can go about their business as normal following a false alarm in the city centre earlier this morning.

Chief Inspector Fiona McDonald said: “At around 10.30am this morning, we received reports of a suspicious package in Derby City Centre.

“A cordon was put in place while our officers were able to establish that this was a false alarm with no danger to the public.

“People in Derby can continue to go about their business as normal.

“The member of the public was, of course, absolutely right to call 999 with their concerns. It is exactly this kind of vigilance that could save lives in the event of a real incident.”
