A burglar woke a pensioner in Derby while stealing her bag and jewellery.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was asleep in an armchair at her home in Border Crescent, Boulton, at around 6.15pm on Thursday, September 7.

She heard a noise and woke to find a man in the doorway. He grabbed her handbag and ran off. She later discovered a wooden octagon-shaped jewellery box of great sentimental value had also been stolen.

Inside were several antique pieces of jewellery, including a gold ladies watch and a necklace with a Madonna pendant.
