Good Samaritans intervene following alleged theft

Good Samaritans have intervened during an alleged theft at a cash machine.

Officers were called after a 66-year-old woman alleged that she was using the cash machine in High Street, Swadlincote at 11am on Friday, September 22, when a man came up from behind and snatched the cash as she withdrew it and ran off.

She called out for help and two members of the public gave chase.

Warren Atkinson (27), of no fixed abode, has been charged with theft and possessing a knife in public.

He appeared before magistrates in Derby on Saturday, September 23.
