Man hospitalised after attack in Matlock

Posted on 30th April 2018

We’re appealing for witnesses to an assault that happened just off Butts Drive, near to the Matlock Green Scouts and Guides' Hut on Wednesday, April 18 at around 6.30pm.

A 35-year-old man was walking his dog across a field when he noticed a group of people near to the Scouts’ hut. One of the men from the group shouted something at him, but he carried on walking.

He was then punched to the back of the head and knocked to the ground. A group of men then stood over him and began kicking, punching and stamping on him.

It is believed the group was made up of between 8-11 people, most of whom were men but there were also two women present.

The victim was later taken to Chesterfield hospital with serious injuries.

A 20-year-old man has since been arrested and released on police bail, and an 18-year-old man has been arrested and released under investigation.

DC Toby Maddocks said: “We are very keen to identify anyone who was in the vicinity of the Scouts’ Hut, off Butts Drive, around the time of this incident.

“The victim was the subject of what appears to be an unprovoked and sustained attack, which has left him requiring hospital treatment for his injuries.
