Man charged following precautionary police station evacuation

Posted on 18th August 2018

A 42-year-old man has been charged with communicating a bomb threat following an evacuation at St Mary’s Wharf police station in Derby yesterday.

Piotr Gapsinki of Bembridge Drive, Derby, will appear before magistrates today.

The station was evacuated as a precaution at around 12.40pm on Friday, August 17 after a member of the public took a package that we believed to be suspicious into the enquiry office.

Explosive Ordinance Division attended and the package was later destroyed via a controlled explosion.

The road on which the station is located, Prime Parkway, was closed for around two hours as a result of the incident.

We are grateful for the patience shown by representatives of businesses in the area while we resolved the situation.
