30-year-old woman dies following Chellaston crash

Posted on 20th August 2018

A 30-year-old woman, who was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa, tragically died as a result of a single car road traffic collision in Chellaston in the early hours of this morning (Monday, August 20).

The incident occurred at around 3.10am this morning. The 23-year-old driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is receiving hospital treatment for injuries that we do not believe to be life-changing.

A police car was involved in an unrelated blue light response in close proximity to the collision. We have, therefore, notified the Independent Office of Police Complaints (IOPC) as a matter of course.

The road will remain closed for some time this evening as work continues at the scene.

Chief Superintendent Jim Allen said: “The loss of any life is always a tragedy and our condolences go to the family of the deceased.

“We are working with the IOPC to understand the full circumstances of this incident which will become clear following a thorough investigation.

“We are grateful to the community for their patience during this time.”
