Drivers, particularly those behind the wheel of heavy goods vehicles, are being advised that part of the A515 at Little Cubley is to close while we continue to investigate a fatal collision.
A 60-year-old Ashbourne man died when the car he was driving was in collision with a lorry on the A515 at Little Cubley at 10.30pm on Monday, November 20, 2017.
The 59-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
As part of the investigation into this collision, we will be carrying out further work at the scene from 4pm on Sunday February 11. So we can carry out this work safely, the A515 will be closed in both directions at Little Cubley for several hours.
The road closure will be in place at Cubley crossroads for southbound traffic and at the junction with Oak Lane for northbound traffic. The closure will be managed by police with officers in place at both closure sites.
There will be no access onto the A515 between these two points during the road closure times. There is a cut through off Derby Lane, via Saint Andrew’s Church, but the A515 will be closed at the end of this road so this is not an alternative route.
Derbyshire County Council has approved the work and long delay boards have been put out to inform road users of the potential disruption.
We will try to reroute light traffic; northbound vehicles will be rerouted down Oak Lane via Marston Montgomery and southbound traffic will be turned left onto Derby Road and rerouted via Boylestone.
Heavy goods vehicles will be the most inconvenienced during this closure as they will not have an alternative route once they reach the closure. We will hold HGVs at the closures and let them through as and when the work allows. The closure will be no longer than 30 minutes at a time. The road will be opened between these segments to ease traffic flow.
We will try to keep disruption to a minimum but please try and avoid the area if you can.
