Man pronounced dead following Alvaston river accident

Posted on 1st July 2018

A 25-year-old man has tragically died after being pulled from the River Derwent in Alvaston yesterday (Saturday, June 30).

At around 6.45pm, we were called to the Alvaston Canal Path near Raynesway due to concerns for the safety of the man.

Swift water rescue teams from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services located the man and lifted him from the water.

He was, however, later pronounced dead in hospital. We have prepared a file for the Coroner.

Inspector Richard Price said: “We do not believe there to be suspicious circumstances. This was a tragic sequence of events that led to the death of a young man.

“My plea to the public is to stay out of open water in order to remain safe as the hot weather continues.”
