Ion Nastase (32) has today Friday, July 13 been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a woman in Harriet Street, Derby on October, 15 2016.
In June, Nastase, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of burglary at Derby Crown Court.
During today’s sentencing Nastase was also given an extended licence period of four years.
Detective Constable Jonathan Harris, officer in the case, said:
“We welcome today’s sentence after what has been a long 21-months for the woman who was raped that night in October, 2016.
“She has shown great courage throughout the trial and sentencing and I would like to thank her personally for the support she has given this investigation.
“Whilst this verdict and sentence cannot undo the trauma that she has suffered at the hands of Nastase, we hope that it goes some way to providing a comfort to know that Nastase is now behind bars and is unable to cause her or anyone else further harm.
“We’d also like to thank the people of Normantan and Rose Hill, who helped with our investigation by coming forward with key witness statements that helped us to affect the early identification and arrest of Nastase.”
