At 4.45am this morning officers were called to the post office on Chapel Street in Spondon to reports of a loud bang.

When officers arrived it became clear that an attempt had been made to steal the ATM machine on the external wall of the post office.

From viewing local CCTV and speaking to locals it is thought that a BMW car was used in connection with the incident.

A stolen silver BMW was found this afternoon in Oakwood which is believed to be the one used in the attack on ATM.

Detective Inspector Chris Whiteley said: “The investigation is still in its very early stages, however I would like anyone that saw a silver BMW in the Spondon area between 4am and 5.30am to contact us.”
