The Community Messaging Service is a system designed to circulate information rapidly, to keep members of the community informed of crimes in their area and current events, as well as appeals for witnesses to crime. You can also sign up for messages about emergencies in your area.
Messages are sent by e-mail, voice mail, fax or text message and people can also choose when they receive information.
The people registered on the system include residents and those who work in the county, Neighbourhood Watch members, members of Key Individual Networks, farm watch, schools and hospitals and businesses such as shops, pubs, post offices and banks.
Information can be specifically targeted at individual schemes or neighbourhoods.
Everyone who registers for the scheme is asked to provide an emergency contact number as well as any number they use on a routine basis. This is to enable the police to communicate in the event of an emergency.
There are already more than 18,500 members of the public and other partner agencies registered on the system.
If you would like more information or would like to register with this service, please contact your Divisional Community Information Officer on 101.
