Two police vehicles
This section of the website contains information to help you use the roads of Derbyshire safely. We've drawn upon our own practical experience to provide you with advice and ideas.
We believe the public has a right to be able to use the roads of Derbyshire safely with confidence free from death, injury, damage and fear.
Our approach to policing the roads of Derbyshire is directed, rather than arbitrary. This means that we don't target motorists at random. Instead, we direct our resources to areas where we need to make a difference.
We will continue to target the factors behind most serious road traffic collisions nationally. These are known as the “Fatal Four”. Driving at excessive speed, under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile telephone whilst driving are the four key causes of collisions involving death or serious injury in the UK.
The number of road deaths in Derbyshire has reduced by 50% over the last 16 years. However the number of child casualties continues to rise in Derbyshire, and this is something we are determined to tackle. We've included lots of advice here on protecting children.
We will effectively use our highly trained staff and the technology available to us in order to tackle criminality and deny criminals the use of the roads.
Where appropriate we will divert people who commit minor traffic offences away from prosecution into education.
