Who are Special Constables?
 |
|
Special Constables are volunteers who, after training, work within Safer Neighbourhood Teams alongside regular Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers to help to police their local communities.
People either join the Special Constabulary because of an interest in helping their local community, because they are interested in a career with the police, or just because they want to find out more about what policing involves. |
What makes Special Constables so special is that they are all people who want to do something positive for themselves and their community, all in their spare time.
Special Constables give around four hours a week, usually in a single shift, but the working hours are totally flexible to suit you and you can work more hours if you can spare the time.
Special Constables come from all walks of life. It is the diversity within the Special Constabulary that helps the Police Service represent the communities it serves. Being a Special means you can expect to enjoy much of the variety that comes with police work.
Special Constables are no ordinary people. They have the drive and dedication to work with the Derbyshire Constabulary in their spare time, to help make their neighbourhoods a safer place. The on-going training and experience on the streets will develop key skills that will stand you in good stead for life. Special Constables are committed quick thinking team players, who can cope with the unexpected and remain calm in a crisis. Do you have four hours a week to spare for the following: - Making a valuable contribution to your community?
- Helping regular officers to deal with incidents and cope with the unexpected?
- Improving your initiative, interpersonal skills and growing in confidence?
Do you meet the following criteria? - Age: You must be aged at least 18 before you can apply. There is no upper age limit but you need to be in good health and be able to meet the standards for fitness and eyesight.
- Nationality: You must be a UK citizen or member of the European Economic Area (EEA). Foreign nationals can also apply as long as you have no restrictions on your stay in the UK.
