Police seize nuisance bike and issue warning to illegal riders in Eckington
Police in Eckington seized one illegal motorbike and issued a warning to another off road motorcyclist during a weekend clampdown on nuisance bikes.
Two teenagers were caught riding their illegal off road bikes in Eckington woods on Saturday, January 30, after police received a number of calls from concerned residents.
One had his bike seized under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 and this will be crushed after seven days.
The other was issued with a warning that if caught again any bike in his possession will be confiscated.
PC Pete McVeigh, who caught the nuisance riders, said: "Any person engaged in nuisance behaviour involving the use of illegal off road motorcycles faces having their bikes confiscated and crushed and being prosecuted for any motoring offences that occur.
"We ask that local residents continue to contact the police whenever they encounter nuisance motorbikes or speak to your local Safer Neighbourhoods officer about any concerns you may have."
Police across north east Derbyshire continue to tackle the issue of nuisance motorcycles. Last month, police in Dronfield seized two motorbikes that were being ridden illegally in the area.
