Members of the Ilkeston Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team ran a community safety event today to help residents protect themselves and their property over the winter months.

The event took place at Shopmobility on High Street, Ilkeston between 9am and 2pm, and around 30 local residents came in to find out more about personal security.

PCSO Chris Hart said: "We ran this community safety event to offer local residents advice on home and personal safety, especially in relation to the dark and cold evenings.

"We gave away various items, such as door stop alarms and personal attack alarms, and had a range of leaflets and information on offer.

"We were very pleased to see so many residents coming in to have a chat and to find out more about neighbourhood policing, and we hope to repeat this type of event in the near future."

Jean Booth, Shopmobility member, first suggested the idea of a community safety event.

Jean said: "At my age it's nice to have the security of something like a personal attack alarm so that I know I can just pull it and someone will hear me.

"It's also good to talk to local police officers to find out more about the area and to discuss any concerns I have."
