Police pleased with Crimewatch response

Police are pleased with the response they have received after a Derbyshire investigation appeared on BBC Crimewatch.

Officers investigating incidents where a man has posed as the brother of comedian Peter Kay in order to trick landlords out of money travelled to London to take part in last night's programme.

Peter Stead, who calls himself Danny Kay, allegedly tricked several Derby landlords out of money in the summer of 2009. He offered to put on a comedy night to raise money for the Lewis Mighty Fund.

He has been given cash by landlords to secure the booking but has failed to perform.

The fund was launched to send four-year-old Lewis, a cancer patient, to America for treatment.

Police say Stead is in his 40s, of large build, with sandy blond hair.

A police spokeswoman said: "Following the appeal on Crimewatch, we have had several calls from people who believe they have seen this man and we are grateful to them for coming forward.

"We would urge anyone with information to call police or Crimestoppers. Any information, know matter how insignificant you think it may be, could help our investigation."

The investigation team can be contacted on 0345 123 3333 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
