Special Constables check vehicles as part of national weekend of activity
Volunteers from the Special Constabulary will be carrying out vehicle checks as part of a national weekend of activity.
National Specials Weekend takes place on February 6 and 7 and the theme this year is road policing initiatives.
Forces across the country will plan events to raise public awareness of the major causes of death and injury on the road - speeding, not wearing seatbelts, using mobile phones while driving and drink-driving.
In Derbyshire, Special Constables will work with officers from the Roads Policing Unit, checking vehicles across the county.
The checks will give Specials the chance to raise awareness of road safety issues and talk to residents about any local problems they may have, which can be passed onto Safer Neighbourhood police officers.
The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteers of all ages who give at least four hours a week, working in the community.
During the weekend, Special Constables and Roads Policing officers will be in Ilkeston, Ashbourne, Chesterfield, Derby, Long Eaton, Bakewell, Staveley, Matlock, Alfreton, Belper, Hope, Dronfield, Bolsover, Glossop, Swadlincote, Ripley, Buxton and Clay Cross.
Assistant Chief Constable Karl Smethem said: "The aim of the weekend is to highlight the very valuable contribution Specials make to the force and local communities in which they serve."
