Residents of Ilkeston will soon see a new officer patrolling in the local area as PC Steve Harper joins the Ilkeston Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team.
PC Harper, who replaces PC Joanna McGee, joins PCSO Chris Hart, Special Constable Adam Wilkins and Special Constable Susan Hawes to patrol the town centre.
PC Harper began his career with Derbyshire Constabulary in 2006 and has spent most of his service responding to emergency calls in the Ilkeston area. He has also worked on the Plain Clothes Crime Reduction Unit and acted as a tutor constable, helping to train officers joining the Constabulary.
Steve said: "Moving on to the Safer Neighbourhood team I would like to be able to provide a reassuring presence in the town centre, as well as tackling anti-social behaviour and violent crime.
"My aim is to make Ilkeston town centre a safer place to live, work and travel through, and I will be relentlessly pursuing those who choose to break the law to achieve this aim.
"I am an approachable person and I would like to encourage local residents to come up and talk to me when you see me out on the beat. Whether you have a question about security or neighbourhood policing, or if you'd like to report a problem, I will be very happy to help."
Steve grew up in the south of England and moved to Derbyshire in 1997 to study for a business degree at Nottingham Trent University.
