New priorities for the Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team

Speeding motorists on Hardwick Square South and nuisance behaviour at the Pavilion Gardens are the two new priorities for the Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team.

They were set at their meeting with local residents and community representatives on Friday, January 29.

The team, PCs Anna Gaskell and Sarah Crosthwaite, PCSOs Michaela Daniels and Matthew Cox and Special Constables Jordan Stimpson, Leah Hilbert and Gareth Dickinson will target the issues during the next three months.

Officers will carry out speed checks, advising and giving out tickets where necessary. They also plan to set up a Community Speedwatch campaign where local volunteers patrol alongside the team and carry out speed checks.

Warning letters are sent by Derbyshire Constabulary, on behalf of the campaign, by any motorists caught driving above the speed limit.

They will also increase patrols to the Pavilion Gardens, to advise to youngsters and will be working with partner organisations to organise alternative activities. Letters of any persistent troublemakers will be delivered to parents to advise them of their youngster's behaviour.

Pubwatch and BRAC (Buxton Retailers Against Crime) members are also being encouraged to contact the police and make use of the radio link up to report any anti-social behaviour or incidents to them.

PC Sarah Crosthwaite of the Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We hold quarterly meetings to give residents and community representatives the chance to set neighbourhood priorities which we, and other partner organisations, target over the next three months.

"The aim is that we work finding long-term solutions to help keep our area a safe and pleasant place to live. We always welcome your feedback and if you have any concerns or issues please contact us, or come along to one of our meetings to find out more."

The team is also looking at the issue of inconsiderate parking at St Anne's Primary School and St Thomas More School.

Issues, unlike priorities, are set by the team who monitor any calls and incidents reported by members of the public in their area.

They will be making increased patrols to advise motorists and working with the schools to encourage parents to park more responsibly.

There will be an opportunity for residents to help set new priorities and discuss progress on these at the next Safer Neighbourhood meeting on Friday, April 30 at 2pm, The Dome.
