Movies are a hit with Eyam youngsters

A group of youngsters from the Eyam Street Elite youth club took a trip to the flicks last week (Thursday, February 4) with their local PCSO and youth club volunteers.

They went to the Cineworld cinema and the youngsters went to see their choice of Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel or It's Complicated.

Eyam Street Elite meets every Wednesday at Eyam Mechanics Institute and is open to all young people in the area.

The club has been running for over three years and was set up to provide youngsters with activities and something to do.

It is organised by a number of volunteers with the support of the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, and they work to provide a selection of different activities and trips to help keep the club popular.

PCSO Anthony Boswell of the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We took a group of 18 young people across to the cinema in Chesterfield, and they all said that they'd enjoyed the trip.

"New members are always welcome and I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the volunteers who help to keep the club running and maintain its success in the community."

The team drop into sessions and support trips as it is a good way for them to get to know and build good relations with local youngsters.
