Community police office to open at The Co-operative store in Tideswell
A brand new community police office is set to be unveiled at The Co-operative store in Tideswell on Friday, March 5 2010.
The store, which is based on the Pot Market, Commercial Road, are providing a room and facilities for the Tideswell and Area Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team and local community to use.
It has been organised as part of the The Co-operative initiative, which was launched last year, to offer police officers and PCSOs the chance to stop by at Co-operative Group and Midlands Co-op food stores across Derbyshire for a welcome hot drink and a chance to mingle with shoppers and staff.
Chief Constable Mick Creedon will officially open the office at 3pm, to a reception of local partners and councillors.
PC Kevin Lowe of the Tideswell and Area Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "It's great news for residents and people in the local area, as we have a base located in the heart of the community and allow us to link in even more closely with the neighbourhood."
The room will also provide a place where residents and neighbourhood representatives can get together to discuss local issues and initiatives.
Co-operative Group area loss prevention officer John Edwards said: "Providing a community police office within the Tideswell store is a great opportunity to bring the police into the heart of the community. Our partnership with Derbyshire Constabulary aims to foster and strengthen relationships between local businesses, the community and the police; and in the process we hope it will be a deterrent to local criminals.
"We work closely with police forces across the country to help tackle problems of crime and anti-social behaviour in the communities we serve and initiatives like this are very important."
