Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of handling stolen goods after residents reported seeing two people acting suspiciously in Ashbourne.

Officers received calls during the afternoon of Friday, February 26 from concerned residents who reported seeing a man and a woman in a black Volkswagen Golf looking at properties.

Police stopped the vehicle and discovered suspected stolen items inside. They arrested the driver, a 25-year-old woman from Manchester, on suspicion of handling stolen property.

She was also questioned about a series of burglaries elsewhere in the county and was released on bail pending further enquiries.

The force helicopter and officers on the ground searched for the man residents had reported seeing in the car, but did not find him.

He is described as black, about 5ft 11ins tall and in his 40s. He wore blue jeans and a dark brown jacket.

Anyone with information should call police on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
