Head Restraints
On the face of it, you might think the head rests on vehicle seats are simply for your comfort.
The fact is that their main role is to help reduce one of the commonest injuries in collisions: whiplash.
Properly adjusted (and combined with a seat belt, of course), a head restraint will restrict the backwards movement of the head during a crash, limiting the damage caused in flexing the neck violently.
Never be tempted to take the head restraints out of a vehicle and make sure they are adjusted so that the back of your head contacts the cushion when you lean backwards.
