Remembrance Garden

The new Remembrance Garden at Force Headquarters was officially opened on Sunday September 20 2009. Chief Constable Mick Creedon led the Derbyshire Constabulary representatives at the dedication ceremony to mark the opening of the garden.

The service gave families, friends and colleagues the opportunity to commemorate the lives of officers and staff who have died while serving the force.

More than 300 people attended. Former Chief Constable David Coleman, Chief Commandant Ivan Bamford and Vice Chairman of the Police Authority Carole Brister were among those who gathered to pay their respects.

Following a short dedication conducted by the Revd Canon Keith Orford, Force Chaplains' Coordinator, the garden was formally opened. There was then time for the bereaved families to remain in the peace of the garden to remember their loved ones.

What does the Remembrance Garden look like?

The design of the garden takes visitors along a pathway leading between evergreen borders to a seated area and a fabulous Acer tree at the heart of the garden. Incorporated into the garden is a memorial tower, a permanent memorial to those we have lost. Individually engraved plaques with the names of those being remembered are placed on the tower.

The gravel path leading into the garden enables full access for everyone. Keeping the garden simple and low maintenance has also been a consideration.
