Serious collision on A38 between Ripley and the Watchorn island

We’re appealing for information following a serious collision on the A38 between Ripley and the Watchorn island at 5.20am today (Thursday 20 August).
The collision involved a cyclist and an HGV.
The cyclist, a 44-year-old man, has been taken to the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, with serious injuries.
The driver of the HGV, a 34-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The northbound carriageway of the road remains closed at this time (1pm) and we would advise people to use alternative routes. The southbound carriageway is now open.
