At around 8pm last night (Thursday 24 October) officers stopped a car in Harvey road, Allenton and recovered a suspected firearm.
Two men, aged 37 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
They remain in police custody and will be questioned by detectives today (Friday 25 October).
Detective Inspector Tom Wagg said:
“I would like to reassure the public that we are treating this as an isolated incident, however we understand that this is likely to cause concern amongst local residents.
“As a result, there will be an increased police presence in the area and we would encourage anyone with any information to speak to our officers or contact us on one of the methods below.
“We’d especially like to hear from anyone who was driving nearby and has dash cam installed.”
Any footage that may be of use to officers should be downloaded onto another device and safely kept for officers to view.
