Warning after reports of man impersonating officer in Derby
Main article content
We are warning the public to be on their guard after the force received reports of a man impersonating a police officer in Derby.
The incident occurred at around 7.30pm yesterday evening (14 July) in the Scarborough Rise/Pickering Rise area of Breadsall Hilltop.
The man, described as being around 5ft 10ins with dark hair and wearing dark trousers, a white shirt, and a black tie, asked the homeowner about his alarm system. He was not allowed into the house.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone else who may have been approached in a similar manner – in particular anyone who may have CCTV footage of the man that may be able to help with their enquiries.
The man who was purporting to be an officer was not able to provide any identification and we are urging anyone who is approached by someone that states they are an officer to request identification in the form of a warrant card.
If you are still concerned that the person may not be a legitimate officer, then do not allow the person into your home and call the 101 non-emergency number to check that they are a bona fide member of the force.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Derbyshire police using any of the below methods, including reference 1087-140722:
