The theme of Road Safety Week 2021 is 'Road Safety Heroes', celebrating the heroic work of road safety professionals, and explaining how we can all play a part in making journeys safer for everyone.
Our force has an abundance of officers who are out each day, keeping the roads of Derbyshire safe. Inspector Gregory Hunt, wanted to take this opportunity to highlight the work of one of our unsung heroes, Casualty Reduction Officer Kerry, who works tirelessly behind the scenes in helping to safeguard our county's roads.
This role is a vital resource for our force, by analysing and collating statistical road offence data, researching any emerging trends in local areas and evaluating road campaigns, she provides us with an evidence-based approach to road safety. This data enables the force to know where to effectively provide enforcement and assist with early intervention to help reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured as a result of collisions on our roads.
Inspector Greg Hunt, who leads the Roads Policing Unit, said: "Kerry is an unsung hero at times, so this year's Road Safety Week campaign theme gives me a perfect opportunity to be able to showcase the amazing work that she produces, for not only our team, but for Derbyshire as a whole.
"What she does behind the scenes, helps us to direct our patrols and locate problem speed sites in local communities and really does assist us in protecting lives.
"Thank you for your dedication Kerry!"
Road Safety Hero, Kerry said: "Our force works tirelessly throughout the year, to think up new initiatives and participate in road safety campaigns to help make Derbyshire safer. The work we do in the Roads Policing Unit helps to reduce casualties, educate drivers and detect offences daily. RPU have already attended over 400 sites for speeding enforcement this year, but having the engagement from the public last month in suggesting problem roads will help us to direct our resources over the coming months, showing we listen to the public and act where we can."
