Keep it simple, we said! All we need is a video promoting the UpRight Christmas toy run, on Saturday 17 December, in aid of Safe and Sound Derby.
But two of the team got a little carried away...
Turning custody into a Santa’s grotto, tasering The Grinch, even dressing our land sharks up in Santa hats – all possible at a push.
But blue light vehicles transforming and rolling out as one giant jet with a big present magnet beneath it, or filming a helicopter chase over the streets of Chesterfield with an officer dangling off the side while clutching a sack full of gifts… those really would be Mission: Impossible.
And as much as we would love the blockbuster budget to make HohoCop, featuring a fully operational robot stomping through Buxton with its tinsel launcher and present cannon in full swing, we just don’t have it.
So we’ve knocked together this video instead, in collaboration with the BikerDown team at Derbyshire Fire & Rescue.
It’s all to promote the third annual Christmas toy run by our UpRight motorbike safety campaign.
At 11am on Saturday 17 December, a convoy of bikers will set off from Pidcock Motorcycles in Long Eaton and travel to Safe and Sound Derby, at Darley Abbey Mills, to donate presents for children at risk of exploitation.
We want as many bikers as possible to join the convoy, hopefully with the riders and bikes decked out in Christmas fancy dress.
People can also donate presents or gift vouchers at a wide range of locations across Derbyshire, which will be collected in advance and delivered to Safe and Sound Derby on the day.
The majority of children the charity supports are aged between eight and 18, although some have younger siblings. The charity generally helps more girls than boys. It does a lot of craft work with the children and young people that they support, so any craft materials, painting pebbles, clay/soap making or cookie decorating kits would be fantastic.
For older children, gift vouchers for high street shops, clothing stores, or entertainment such as cinemas or bowling would also be gratefully received.
Below is a list of donation points if members of the public would like to drop a present off. Any donations at fire stations MUST be unwrapped. Gifts can be wrapped for other locations but should have the age and gender of the child marked in pencil on the wrapping paper.
