Heading away for the school holidays? Whilst burglaries are rare, there are steps you can take to prevent your home being a target for burglars whilst you’re away.
All of our tips, shared earlier this week, for keeping your home secure whilst popping out still apply. However, if you’re going to be away overnight, or for a longer period of time, it’s worth doing extra checks for that peace of mind whilst you’re away:
Use timer plugs to turn lights on and off in your home when you're not there.
Use outdoor security lighting to highlight if there’s any movement on your property – this will often deter burglars.
Do not post on social media advertising that you’re away from home.
Ask a friend, family member or neighbour to keep an eye on things and pop in periodically.
Leave all valuables such as laptops and jewellery out of sight, ideally locked away.
Do a final check throughout your property to ensure all windows, doors and other entrances are secure.
Remove all keys from windows and doors and put them somewhere safe.
Remember to set your house alarm if you have one.
If you believe your home has been burgled, or are worried about a neighbours’ property, please contact us to report this via the below methods. If you believe the crime is still in progress call 999.
